Here is our list of ten MC's that made a difference. Some are old, some are new, some are commercial, and some are underground, but they all share one thing... the insane ability to rock tha' mic!!!

Common

Common is a self conscious MC that gets respect on both a commercial and underground level. His strong political views shine through his raps.

Big L

This hardcore Harlem MC was slain by the gun in a case of mistaken identity way before his time. He was about to sign to Jay-Z's Rock-A-Fella records before his death.

Notorious B.I.G

In another case of gun violence, Biggie was killed before the release of his second album on March 9, 1997.

Slug

Pictured here with Mr.Dibbs, his DJ in the group Atmosphere, Slug is the best of the underground MC's. He owns Rhymesayers Entertainment, an independent label which produces some of the underground's dopest.

Eminem

The rapper people love to hate gets nothing but love from us. Though his subject matter is sometimes a little out there, his lyrical skill is absolutely amazing.

Nas

Since the 1994 release ofIillmatic, Nas has remained on the list of the greatest MC's of all time.

Gza/Genius

If you ain't heard...Go cope Liquid Swords. It won't disappoint.

Talib Kweli

Originally part of Blackstar, with Mos Def, Talib moved out solo, and consistently drops bombs for both mainstream and undergroundhip hop heads to rock to.

KRS One

Kris Styles is D-O-P-E!!! Around since the early days of hip hop KRS was one of the hip hop originators with his group Boogie Down Productions.

Jay- Z

The 'King of New York' rules mainstream hip hop, but with his lyrical skill he has the right to be called this. More than 7 platinum albums and part owner of Rock-A-Fella Records, Jay is the greatest hip hop entrepreneur of all time, not to mention a damn good MC.
